He
attended Maryland’s Montgomery County Schools throughout
his elementary, middle, and high school years. Drafted
by the New York Mets in 1986, Curtis was also offered a
basketball scholarship to the College of William & Mary.
He accepted both…baseball and school.
Even
though one of his goals was to play in the Major Leagues
– his most important goal was to obtain a college
education. In 1991, Curtis reached this goal when he
received his diploma (Bachelor of Business
Administration, Major: Finance). He then turned his
attention to baseball, and in 1993, Curtis made it to
the Major Leagues with the Montreal Expos. Pride is the
President and co-Founder of the Together With Pride
Foundation, Inc. He resides in South Florida during
the off-season.
Through this scholarship, Curtis hopes to help students
reach their educational goals.
$1,500
scholarships will be awarded to select graduating
high school seniors from Maryland, Washington, D.C.,
and/or South Florida who are deaf/hard of hearing or
who wish to become teachers of the hearing impaired.
This award is not based solely on academic achievement.
However, the applicants must demonstrate that they take
PRIDE in their school, community, family, and self
through their grades, extra-curricular activities,
volunteer & work experiences, and goals.
